1920-1946: Soap had been the most popular cleaning product for several centuries, its advantages include good decontamination; but its disadvantages include taking too much animal/vegetable oil to make and strong alkaline in nature.
After 1946: With the development of chemical industry, people learned to extract tetra propylene from petroleum to produce a synthetic cleaning agent better than soap. People then produced laundry powder from the cleaning agent, which is comparable to soap in terms of function and cost, for the convenience of use, carrying, storage and transportation,
1987: Concentrated laundry powder was launched. Its characteristics include having enzyme, bleach and new surfactant for better decontamination. Relatively, it was cheaper than regular laundry powder and had better value for money. Also, it was compact in size and became very popular among Japanese families quickly, taking the Japanese market by storm then attracting worldwide attention. In 1980s, washing machines were widely used in Japan; consumers therefore switched to use concentrated laundry powder, which was more suitable for machine wash.
In 1990s, concentrated laundry powder was developed into super concentrated laundry powder and become very popular in Europe, the US, Hong Kong and Japan. It has better cleaning functions, is more convenient, saves water, and reduces packaging and raw materials, as well as saving storage space for retailers and users, reducing transportation costs and water/environmental pollution caused by packaging waste.

There are five ingredients in laundry powder, which include active ingredients, auxiliary cleaning ingredients, cushioning ingredients, enhancing ingredients, and auxiliary ingredients.
Laundry powder with enzymes or scent means it is added with enzymes or fragrance. Laundry powder added with enzymes is particularly effective to remove certain stains (e.g. juice, ink, blood, milk, gravy, cow's milk, sauce). Also, certain enzymes are anti-bacterial, whitening, and color protectors.
The quantity of foam produced by laundry powder has no impact on decontamination and whitening. It is a misconception that laundry powder that has more sud is better in decontamination. There are three advantages of low sud laundry powder:
-
Easy to rinse, save rinsing time
-
Save water for rinsing
-
Prevent excessive foam from damaging the washing machine
On top of decontamination, WayWay has launched Silky Soft Super Concentrated Softening Laundry Powder for better softening effect, and Oxicare Super Concentrated Laundry Powder for better color protection.
-
Based on better decontamination of super concentrated laundry powder, Silky Soft Super Concentrated Softening Laundry Powder has added SON softening factor to protect and soften clothing, making them easy to iron and fold.
-
OxicareSuper Concentrated Laundry Powder has added CA color protecting factor, making the colors of clothing stay new and fresh be being more resistant to washing.
We must take note of the followings when washing:
-
Check the symbols on washing label before washing, be aware laundrypowder is not suitable for wool and silk.
-
Categorize clothing before soaking and washing, separate to wash according to their color scheme, material and level of dirtiness.
-
To prevent damage to clothing, cotton dress or jacket must be reversed inside out before washing, lingerie and nylon socks should be placed in a laundry bag. If the garment has deep pockets or large buckles, they should be properly fastened.
-
Read the laundry powder instruction carefully, and follow the specified amount to use. Take WayWay Super Concentrated Laundry Powder as an example, 1 flat spoon of laundry powder can wash 5 kilograms of clothes. For hand wash, amount can be adjusted accordingly.
-
For better effect of the active ingredients, dissolve detergent powder completely before putting the clothes in.
-
Dry the clothes carefully after washing, and drying time should not be too long. Follow the instruction of washing machine.
-
Hang the clothes according to their sewing lines. Put clothes at ventilated area if they can be dried by sun light.
There are three characteristics when comparing super concentrated and regularlaundrypowder:
-
Manufacturing process: super concentrated laundrypowder uses innovative granulation technology to fill up the inside of powder particles. It removes sodium sulfate and filling agents, which are commonly found in regular laundrypowder, but increase the active ingredients. Regular laundrypowder is made by spray drying, its particles are hollow, with low density, large in volume and light in weight.
-
Ingredients: super concentrated laundrypowder is mainly made of active ingredients, over 90% effective in decontamination. Also, it uses nonionic surfactant, with reduced sud, strong in decontamination, easy to rinse, therefore more suitable for machine wash. The major ingredient of regular laundrypowder is filling agent, which is low in cost and has no direct impact on decontamination. Its purpose is to increase the volume and weight. Also, regular laundrypowder uses anionic surfactant. Large amount of foam will be produced when rinsing which could reduce the speed of water spinning and damage the washing machine.
-
Quantity used: super concentrated laundrypowder is about 1/3 the volume of regular laundrypowder. When use the same amount, the decontamination capability of super concentrated laundrypowder is 2 times or higher than regular detergent powder.
The advantages of super concentrated laundrypowder over liquid detergent are as follows:
-
Decontamination: the decontamination capability of super concentrated detergent powder is 3 times higher than liquid detergent. According to the national standard test on decontamination, super concentrated laundrypowder uses 0.1% of amount, and liquid detergent 0.3% of amount, for the same level of decontamination of regularlaundry powder.
-
Maintenance of whiteness: super concentrated laundrypowder contains large amount of soft water to avoid deposition on clothing. Liquid detergent has much less soft water, when used for long, clothing will become yellowish and lose its shininess.
-
More effective ingredients: most liquid detergent contains 70-80% of water, only 20-30% of ingredients can decontaminate, while almost all ingredients of super concentrated laundry powder are effective in cleaning.
-
No preservatives: liquid detergent has preservatives; otherwise its quality may deteriorate. Constant direct contact with preservatives is not healthy to human body, and super concentrated laundrypowder does not have any preservatives.
-
With SOT active enzyme: based on current technology, enzyme cannot exist stably in liquid detergent; therefore liquid detergent cannot remove protein type stains effectively. WayWay Super Concentrated Laundry Powder contains SOT active enzyme, and is very effective in removing protein type stains.
-
Packaging: Liquid detergent is usually packed in plastic bottles, which may create environmental pollution.
